ONDO DECIDES 2020

The 2020 Ondo State gubernatorial election occurred on October 10, 2020. This was one of the major elections to be conducted during the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria, which makes it a useful case study for the conduct of elections during emergencies.

The Ondo State Governorship election was commended to be relatively free, fair & violence free by several observers present during the election process. INEC was also commended for the use of the Election Result Viewing Portal for increased transparency in the electoral process. However, it was noted that the election was not Covid-19 complaint.

Prior to the Ondo state elections, The Electoral Hub, an organ of the Initiative for Research, Innovation, and Advocacy in Development (IRIAD), published technical briefs with recommendations on how INEC and other stakeholders can safeguard the integrity of the elections.
