Electoral Accountability Training
A 1-day training tagged “Electoral Accountability in Nigeria” (27 February 2024) was organised by IRIAD – The Electoral Hub with support from the MacArthur Foundation. Youths resident in the six Area Councils of FCT, students of tertiary institutions in the FCT and serving Corp members in the FCT were participants at the training.
The training covered key areas such as electoral accountability in Nigeria, election duty bearers and their roles, electoral Accountability institutions, and the role of youth in promoting electoral accountability.
Miss Princess Hamman-Obels, the Director of IRIAD – The Electoral Hub, welcomed the participants and appraised them regarding the work IRIAD – The Electoral Hub and the objectives of the training. She also took the training on understanding the Electoral Process and Electoral Accountability and Key Stakeholders and Institutions Responsible for Electoral Accountability in Nigeria.
Mr. Armsfree Ajanaku had a session on How Can Local Communities can Strengthen Electoral Accountability in Nigeria?
Mr. Divine Weldone conducted a session on Ensuring Electoral Accountability in Nigeria with a specific focus on Electoral Offences and Sanctions and Social Media as an Accountability Tool.
Participants were divided into groups for a Group Work on “Ensuring Electoral Accountability: The Way Forward” looking at The Role of Youths, Experiences on the performance of duty bearers and making proposals of innovative measures for improving accountability.
