International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict
IRIAD-The Electoral Hub commemorates International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. Conflicts often result in sexual assaults, harassment, violations, and rape. The major victims of such sexual violence in conflicts are usually women and children.
Millions of people around the world have been victims of this abnormality. It is therefore important that awareness is raised and efforts are made towards eliminating sexual violence in conflicts.
This year’s theme, “Bridging the Gender Digital Divide to Prevent, Address, and Respond to Conflict-related Sexual Violence,” necessitates the need for increased accessibility to technology, particularly for women and children, to eliminate sexual violence in conflict.
We urge everyone to join us in raising awareness about the evils of sexual violence in conflicts. We also implore relevant stakeholders to make inclusive policies that protect women and children from sexual violence and hold perpetrators accountable. Increased provision for technological advancements and accessibility should also be made to help raise alert, protect, and report sexual violence cases.
